The Foundation currently offers two special initiatives in the Chicago area. Through the Accessible Faith Grant Program, started in 2002, the Foundation makes funds available to Chicago area houses of worship for accessibility improvements to their facilities. Such improvements should allow increased participation of older adults in the programs, services, and activities that occur in the facilities. The Accessible Faith Grant Program is limited to applicants from Cook, Lake and DuPage counties in Illinois. Applications for 2009 funding must be received at the Foundation office or postmarked by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, April 17, 2009 or Friday, June 26, 2009.
The purpose of the Organizational Capacity Building Initiative, begun in 1998, is to help metropolitan Chicago area nonprofit organizations make long-term improvements in their management and governance and, by doing so, enhance and sustain their services to the elderly. The Organizational Capacity Building Initiative is open to applicants from the following six Chicago-area counties: Cook, DuPage, Kane, Kendall, Lake (Illinois) and McHenry. Deadlines are February 1, May 1, and August 1.
